CVW Installation Checklist

CVW Server and Document Server

• Install the CVW Server software into /opt/CVWserver
• Modify the cvw.boot startup script with custom settings, move to /etc/init.d/cvw, then link to /etc/rc3.d/S99cvw
• Install the CVW Document Server software into /opt/CVWserver
• Modify the cvwds.boot startup script with custom settings, move to /etc/init.d/cvwds, then link to /etc/rc3.d/S99cvwds
• Create a user account for the "cvw" pseudo user which will run the CVW server processes and set file permissions
• Test CVW Server operation with telnet
• Test CVW Document Server operation with web browser
• Customize the /opt/CVWserver/doc-store/transtable.db file to enable Windows-Unix file use (only required if Windows clients will be used)

The following require the Tk CVW client and a user with admin privileges:

• Modify the Login Message, New User Mail Message, and Modify User Mail Message
• Modify the CVW System Settings (CVW server name, host name, port, multicast prefix, enable user account email notification)
• Set the CVW Email Reply Address

Tk CVW Client

• Install CVW base client files into /opt (CVW-3.2 directory is created in /opt)
• Install client support for required operating systems (Solaris, Linux, etc.)
• Modify the etc/cvw.res file with custom settings (CVW servers, location of user image icons, proxy server for whiteboard web access, proxy server for user images on an external web server, client error email reporting)
• Modify etc/cvwprefs to provide default user preferences settings (default colors, audio and video conferencing settings, display preferences, specific tools bar icons, checkout directory location, web browser preference, and window geometry settings)
• Customize the mime-db file with MIME types for documents users will import
• Rename the CVW client directory to /opt/CVW
• Edit the bin/xcvw shell script to provide the default client home directory
• Set file permissions
• Optionally modify shared memory settings for video conferencing tool (LBL VIC)
• Correct Solaris 2.6 graphics library incompatibility on SBUS platform only
• Test CVW client operation

Windows Java CVW Client and CVW Web Documentation

Note: The Java CVW client can be accessed from a web server for installation under Windows, and therefore is included with the CVW Web documentation

Web Documentation

• Install the web documentation into web server's html directory (a "cvw" directory is created)
• Create a symbolic link to point to the desired index.html file, located in cvw/index-files/ (index.html files are provided for Java/Windows only, Tk/UNIX only, or combined Tk/UNIX and Java/Windows documentation sets)

Java Client Web Server Access

• Edit web server MIME content type to support .cvw extension
• Restart HTTP server
• Edit the server configuration file (cvw/win-cvw/bin/Server.cvw) to reflect local CVW server settings (CVW server name, CVW server host name, CVW server port, CVW document server host name, CVW document server port, proxy server for user images, proxy server for whiteboard backdrops)
• Optionally create additional "Server.cvw" files for other CVW servers
• Optionally customize the install.html file located in cvw/win-cvw/ to enable download of additional sever configuration files

Windows Java CVW Client Installation

• Download CVW32Installer.exe and server configuration file(s) from web server
• Quit all running applications, including any background processes such as a virus scanner.
• Run CVW32Installer.exe
• Test the operation of the CVW client
• Delete CVW32Installer.exe
