CVW Upgrade Checklist
CVW Server and Document Server (3.2 to 4.0)
- Shut down the CVW Server and Document Server
- Retain a backup copy of the CVW Server directory by moving a copy to
/opt/CVWserver.old
- Install the new CVW Document Server in
/opt/CVWdocserver
- Modify the
cvwds.boot startup script with custom settings
and copy to /etc/init.d/cvwds, then link to
/etc/rc3.d/S99cvwds
- Test CVW Document Server operation with web browser
- Convert the document repository in /opt/CVWserver/doc-store using the translate-data.pl perl script.
- Create a new CVW Server directory (
/opt/CVWserver)
- Copy the specified subset of files from
/opt/CVWserver.old to this new directory
- Copy the /opt/CVWserver.old/cvw.db.new to the /opt/CVWserver/cvw.db
- Set file permissions
- Apply the
32to402_patch.txt file to
your database using the Tk client
- Test CVW Server operation with telnet
- Archive
/opt/CVWserver.old
Unix Java CVW Client (3.2 to 4.0)
- Disable access to user client or shut down the CVW Server and Document
Server
- Retain a backup copy of the CVW client directory by moving a copy to
/opt/CVW.old
- Install CVW base client files into
/opt
(CVW directory is created in /opt)
- Install client support for required platforms
- Modify the
server.cvw file with custom settings (CVW
servers, location of user image icons, proxy server for whiteboard web
access, proxy server for user images on an external web server)
- Modify
master.cvwprefs to provide default user preferences
settings (default colors, audio and video conferencing settings, display
preferences, and window geometry settings) (reference custom settings
in /opt/CVW/lib/master.cvwprefs)
- Customize the
mime-db file with MIME types for documents
users will import (reference mime-db file in
/opt/CVW.old)
- Set file permissions
- Optionally modify shared memory settings for video conferencing tool
(LBL VIC)
- Correct Solaris 2.6 graphics library incompatibility on SBUS platform
only
- Test CVW client operation
- Archive
/opt/CVWserver.old
- Update web documentation
Windows Java CVW Client (3.2 to 4.0)
Uninstalling the Previous Version of CVW
- Save changes to documents that were being edited in CVW
- Quit the CVW application
- Quit all running applications, including any background processes such
as a virus scanner.
- Uninstall the previous version of the CVW client using the Add/Remove programs tool
located in the Windows Control Panel
- Follow the procedures below to install the new client
Windows Java CVW Client Installation
- Quit all running applications, including any background processes such
as a virus scanner.
- Download CVW40Installer.exe and server configuration file(s) from web server
- Run CVW40Installer.exe
- Test the operation of the CVW client
- Delete CVW40Installer.exe
